Day 2 of Water Only Fasting

I slept well last night. I woke up at 3 AM and felt a bit of a headache, but not like a typical headache for me, and could get back to sleep. I woke up at my normal 6 AM and decided to meditate this morning. The medical assistant and the doctor came around fairly early to do their rounds, and I didn’t want to be disturbed. I also was able to take a quick shower this morning.

They would prefer you not to have water too hot or cold and not shower at all, as they are afraid of people passing out from these temperature extremes. I will play this by ear and limit my time and temperature, as I enjoy being clean. Without coffee, it’s the only thing to help me feel awake.

It’s 10:30 AM, and I feel hungry. I could sit outside in the morning sun before it got too hot. I thought maybe I’d get some energy from my time in the sun, but we are not plants. It felt good but did not help my energy level.

This early afternoon, I felt a bit out of my head. Not exactly lightheaded, but not exactly all there. I must say that otherwise, I don’t feel too bad and have been keeping busy. There are twice-daily talks. This morning’s talk was on the Microbiome and was quite interesting. This afternoon at 2 PM, the talk was on eating the True North way by Cathy Fisher, who wrote the cookbook Straight Up Food and has a website of the same name with whole food recipes.

My excitement for the day was someone bringing me a scale, as I had lost 8 pounds since I had weighed yesterday. We wanted to make sure the scale was working correctly. I am not too excited about the big weight loss because it is not 8 pounds of fat. I am in ketosis, which uses up all the glycogen stores, the quick stores of energy that are available to run your muscles for movement. I assume that those 8 pounds will find me again when I start refeeding.

Tune in tomorrow. Please do not try a water-only fast on your only for longer than three days.
