Day 13 of Water Only Fasting

This morning, we had another cooking class with Cathy Fisher. She made a peach and blackberry cobbler and also a pesto pasta. The smells from these dishes were absolutely amazing. Remember, these recipes are completely vegan, with no oil, salt, sugar, or wheat flour. I know from experience that even when you eat a big holiday meal of whole plant-based food; you do not feel heavy or tired, and the food can taste amazing.

This afternoon was a class that I was looking forward to by Dr. Justin Wise. It was called Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry of Fasting. As a pharmacist, I was interested in getting more details on what happens during a fast, and we went down to the cellular level. Dr. Wise can take a complex subject and break it down so that most people understand it. At the end of the talk, he covered frequently asked questions, such as why no exercise or showering while fasting. We then asked our own questions.

This evening, I surprisingly felt hungry. I have had no issues with hunger this entire time. My weight loss has greatly slowed down. From today’s talk, I learned that this means my body is now in starvation mode, and my metabolism is slowing down to protect me from the famine that it thinks is happening. It may take some time for my metabolism to return once I start eating again.

On the bright side, I am getting close to being two-thirds of the way done, and I can see the end coming soon. I will see this until the end, but I am questioning why I am doing this. We will see if I feel the same way a few months from now.
