I am finished with the fasting portion of my stay, but I still have 10 days left here. Why? There is a re-feeding protocol that lasts half the time you fasted. This is an essential part of the process. After you have rested your gut this long, you can not just eat whatever you ate before you came here. Proper re-feeding helps to avoid electrolyte imbalances and allows the digestive tract to get up and go again. The body must also switch gears and move from using fat for energy to using food glucose.
I lost 26 pounds but expect to gain weight as my body adjusts, and my glycogen stores refill. I am fascinated to find out what happens to me post-fasting. I did not come here for weight loss, but it was a nice side effect. I will not know until April of next year if I was successful in clearing the cysts and growth they found in my body. I feel better knowing that I took my health into my own hands and did something that will benefit me long term.
The re-feeding protocol for me is two days of juice, two days of raw fruit and veggies but no citrus, two days of steamed veggies, including potatoes and quash, two days of grains, ½ avocados, and 1/2 ounce nuts or seeds, and then two days of eating all the plant foods, specifically adding beans/legumes.
Today, I started the day off with a watermelon cucumber juice. Normally, the juices have lots of celery, but at special request, I could have cucumber instead. Later in the day, I will get two green juices and another watermelon juice. After not eating for 21 days, the juices taste amazing. Your taste buds are neuroadaptive, so fasting is a good way for people who can’t live without the salt shaker to get a reset.
